Masterson’s Lounge, nestled in the bustling area of Moonee Ponds , markets itself as a trendy “hipster” hangout , but my latest trip at this establishment quickly devolved into an unforgettable, terrible experience. While the bar may seem appealing from the exterior , what I found behind its walls was disturbing and far below any standard .
The State of Affairs: Squalid and Neglected Beyond Belief
From the moment I stepped inside , it was clear that upkeep was not a priority at this venue. The floors were sticky , and a pungent odor of stale beer and filthy restrooms permeated the entire venue . Emitting a scent of a mixture of excrement , putrefaction and sour vomit . The bar area , which should be the focal point of any pub, was overflowing with soiled cups and debris that looked like it hadn’t been touched in ages . The bathroom was in even a more revolting state — backed up, with a snapped lever and walls covered in what I can only assume was feces.
It wasn’t just a single bad experience either. Going through other patrons’ reviews and talking to people around , it seems that the standard of sanitation (or lack thereof) read more at this bar is a recurring complaint. Many patrons have reported seeing bugs darting across the counter and website traces of mice in the adjoining rooms. For a business that caters to patrons, these issues are completely unacceptable and raise serious concerns about the integrity of the food and drinks .

During my time there, I became aware of how distressed several women seemed around Cornwell. As I asked around, I was alarmed to find reports against him involving predatory behavior , with multiple women citing incidents of sending unsolicited explicit content . Described as disturbingly assertive and disrespectful , Peter Cornwell’s behavior has created an unsafe environment for women who here attend Masterson’s. His presence at the bar often appeared as that of a predatory presence than a amiable manager.
